WELCOME TO KASANA MUSEUM!The museum is the result of archaeological excavations and cultural research in the spring of 2008. It is also a tribute to the people of Kasana, being the first museum in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The museum is housed in a traditional village, which offers the visitor a unique experience. In and around the village are old settlement mounds, cisterns, heaps of iron slag and other ancient remains in an un-spoilt landscape. Kasana is famous for its old slave market and evocative dances inspired my mating birds and still performed. The modern village of Kasana is a true gem in the amazing necklace of Northern Ghana. The village and its people - along with other communities in the Tumu area – have maintained a great deal of their ancient culture, while developing at first in the traditional, then in a colonial context, partly in a Muslim, and nowadays within independent, increasingly globalized Ghana. Kasana Museum and the scientific work behind it, was organized under aegis of GDArch (a programme of cooperation between the University of Ghana and the University of Copenhagen), financed by DANIDA/the Danish Ministry of Foreign affairs.
